Community Consolidated School District 21 serves nearly 7,000 students in 13 schools across 6 communities in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Tarkington Elementary School serves students through 5th grade. School starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 3:30 PM daily.

Helping Paws

Helping Paws is Tarkington’s Student Service Organization. It is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. The students will participate in activities that will help local and national communities. We look forward to working with our growing club and we are enthusiastic to help make the world a better place! This club meets during lunch on select D days. The club sponsors are Mrs. Collett, Mrs. Rivers, and Mrs. Zach. Please contact them for more information.

Food DRive

Tarkington families donated food items for the Wheeling Food Pantry.  This food drive benefits families within the Wheeling community who are in need in food.  Thank you to Helping Paws for helping to promote this fundraiser.  Tarkington was able to fill 21 boxes with food!

Cardboard Challenge

On Thursday, October 8th, Tarkington School along with Helping Paws hosted our second annual Cardboard Challenge as a fundraiser for our newly established NEU Tarkington Scholarship. This year we raised over $1,400! A big thank you to all who contributed to our successful event.

Used Book Sale

Helping Paws marked Read Across America Day with a used book sale. Students and staff donated gently used books in the days leading up to the sale. During the week of February 29th, books were sold for $.50 each during all lunch periods. As a result, Tarkington will donate $368 to Together We Rise, an organization working to improve the lives of foster children, through money raised from the book sale, and additional contributions generously given by students.
