Community Consolidated School District 21’s board of education on July 18 voted in favor of appointing two new assistant principals between Holmes and London Middle Schools.
Dr. Ali Zimmerman will head to Holmes to become the assistant principal of instructional improvement, effective July 18. Dr. Zimmerman joins the district from Chicago Public Schools, where she served successfully as an assistant principal at George Washington High School. She also served as a science, technology, engineering and mathematics integration specialist and as a math teacher at schools within CPS.
District administrators said Dr. Zimmerman distinguished herself as a “strategic leader who seeks opportunities to ensure academic growth of students and also opportunities to develop teacher capacity.”
“I am looking forward to continuing to lay roots and build in a community closer to home,” said Dr. Zimmerman. “The district values empowering students and I plan on joining that work by continuously inspiring students, staff, and the community of their brilliance; reminding them that they are not only the leaders of the future, but the leaders of today. Most of all, I believe in the work and am eager to meet our hornets community.”
Dr. Zimmerman’s initial annual salary will be $95,400 per year for a 210-day administrative contract plus the standard administrator benefit package.
Tyler Smith, meanwhile, joins London as its newest assistant principal, effective July 18. He most recently served as an instructional coach in Diamond Lake District 76. Prior to that, Smith served as a dean of school culture in Rockford and as a music teacher in Grayslake, Illinois, and Key West, Florida.
Smith “has been described as respectful, amazing and collaborative,” district administrators said in recommending his approval. “He is willing to go above and beyond to support his community.”
“I am honored to accept the role of assistant principal at London Middle School as it presents an incredible opportunity for me to make a positive impact on the growth and success of our students,” Smith said. “My previous work as an instructional coach and dean of school culture has taught me to challenge our students to reach their full potential as an individual, while also showing them the value of contributing positively to their school culture and community.”
Smith’s initial annual salary will be $90,000 per year for a 210-day administrative contract plus the standard administrator benefit package.
