The Illinois State Board of Education has named two CCSD21 schools as exemplary and eight CCSD21 schools as commendable, as compared to all schools across Illinois. The designations are part of the new Illinois Quality Framework required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and were released today on the Illinois School Report Card.

β€œWe witness the growth and achievement of students in our classrooms every day,” said Dr. Michael Connolly, Superintendent of CCSD21. β€œThe new framework allows us to celebrate our many successes and identify targeted student groups with additional support to ensure all learners are being challenged at the highest levels.”

Tarkington Elementary was one of the two district schools designated as exemplary.

Exemplary: This designation means that our overall school performance is in the top 10% of all schools in the state. The performance of the school and all of its student groups meet the academic performance, growth, and school quality expectations of the State of Illinois. Of the nearly 3100 elementary public schools in the district, 308 were designated as Exemplary.

School Principal, Joe Arduino, had this response, “This recognition speaks to our No Excuses Culture, the skill of our staff, our student’s effort, and the support and commitment of our parent community. We all have a hand in the achievement and growth of our students.”
