First Week of School Information

Dear Tarkington Families:

Thank you to all of the families who were able to meet their first through first grade teacher on Thursday night.  Those families who visited the gym may have noticed that the main gym was not air conditioned. D21 Schools who have two gyms (our multi-purpose room is technically a gym) only received air conditioning in one of their gyms.  As the district continues to evaluate its needs and resources, the large gym will be given consideration for air conditioning at a later date.

I hope all of you are enjoying the final weekend before the start of the school year.  Some general reminders as we all prepare to ensure that your child has a safe and enjoyable learning experience this year at Tarkington:

Pre-K and KDG Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, 9/3

Students in AM Session: 9:30 to 10:30 

Students in PM Session:   1:30-2:30

During this time, parents and students can come in to drop off school supplies, see the classroom, and meet the teacher

 

First Days of School

Grades 1 through 5 begin school on Tuesday, 9/3. This is a full day of school.  On this day, students should meet on the blacktop no earlier than 8:35 AM.  School is dismissed at 3:30 PM. 

 

Pre-Kindergarten (PK) and Kindergarten:  The first day of PK and Kindergarten is Wednesday, 9/4. 

PK and Kindergarten AM Session is 9:00 to 11:30

PK and Kindergarten PM Session is 1:00 to 3:30

Breakfast and Lunch at School

All Tarkington students are entitled to a free breakfast and all students in grades 1-5 may also receive a free lunch.  Students simply enter their ID # (provided at school) to receive this.

Because we value the instructional day, we want to balance the importance of food without it interfering with learning or instruction.  Please keep in mind:

• It is our expectation that students who need/want breakfast will do so between 8:25 and 8:50.  During this time, students can go to the cafeteria, get a breakfast, eat, and then go outside to play.  If they finish eating after 8:50 they go straight to their classroom. This procedure allows for no interruptions during the instructional day.  If students want to save part of their breakfast for later in the day, that is acceptable.

• We also understand that there will be some students who arrive between 8:50 and 9:00 who may have not had breakfast.  In this case, students wanting/needing breakfast will go to the cafeteria and “grab and go” their breakfast and eat in the classroom.  We know that this may cause some interruptions but know the benefits of having breakfast will ultimately improve focus and learning.

AM Arrival

Students may be dropped off as early as 8:25 AM if they are receiving breakfast.  Outdoor supervision begins at 8:35. During inclement weather, students may enter the building at 8:25 AM

If you are picking-up or dropping off children at school, you have two options:

1. Drop off your children in the designated area inside the cones.

2. Park in a designated, legal parking space and escort your child to and from the building/playground.

PM Dismissal

PK and Kindergarten have unique arrivals and dismissals.  These will be communicated directly from the PK and Kindergarten teachers on 9/3

All other students are dismissed out one of two doors:

Grades 1-2:  Dismissal out Door 13 (in front of building)

Grades 3-5   Dismissal out Door 12 (in the back of building)

Lastly, one of our goals at Tarkington is to start instruction at the 9:00 and 1:00 Bell.  Because of this, we ask you to bring your child to school no later than 10 minutes before the start of the school day.  As the front door is locked after 9:00 AM, please make sure you sign your child in at the office if you arrive after 9:00 AM.  Please see the Bell to Bell Schedule for details.

Estimadas familias de Tarkington:

Espero que todos estén disfrutando el último fin de semana antes de que inicien las clases para el nuevo año escolar.  Algunos recordatorios generales al prepararnos para asegurarnos que la experiencia de aprendizaje de su hijo/a sea segura y agradable todo el año en Tarkington:

Conoce a tu maestra para estudiantes de Pre-K y KDG es el  martes, 9/3

Los estudiantes en la sesión AM: 9:30 to 10:30 

Los estudiantes en la sesión PM :  1:30-2:30

Durante este tiempo, padres y estudiantes podrán venir y dejar los útiles escolares, ver el salón y conocer a su maestra. 

Primeros días de clases

Grados 1 al  5 inician clases el martes  9/3. Este es un día completo de clases.  En este día, los estudiantes deberán de reunirse en el patio de recreo trasero no antes de las  8:35 AM. Las clases se terminan a las 3:30 PM. 

Pre-Kindergarten (PK) y Kindergarten:  El primer día de clases para  PK y Kindergarten es el miércoles 9/4. 

PK y Kindergarten sesión AM es de  9:00 to 11:30

PK y KIndergarten sesión PM es de  1:00 to 3:30

 

Desayuno y almuerzo en la escuela 

Todos los estudiantes de Tarkington tienen derecho a desayuno gratis y todos los estudiantes en grados 1-5 podrán recibir un almuerzo gratis.  Los estudiantes simplemente registran su # de identificación (proveído en la escuela) para recibir esto.  

Debido a que valoramos el día instruccional, deseamos balancear la importancia de la comida sin interferir la enseñanza o instrucción. Favor de tomar en cuenta: 

Es nuestra expectativa que los estudiantes que necesiten o deseen desayuno, lo hagan entre el horario de las 8:25 a 8:50.  Durante este tiempo, los estudiantes pueden ir a la cafetería, comer y luego ir a jugar afuera. Si ellos terminan de comer después de las 8:50 ellos irán directamente a su salón.  Este procedimiento evita interrupciones durante el día de instrucción. Si los estudiantes desean guardar parte de su desayuno para más tarde, es aceptable también.

También entendemos que habrá algunos estudiantes que lleguen entre las  8:50 y 9:00 y que no hayan desayunado. En este caso, los estudiantes que deseen /necesitan desayunar, irán a la cafetería y tomarán una bolsa con comida para desayunar y comer en el salón.  Sabemos que esto pudiera causar algunas interrupciones pero sabemos del beneficio de tener un desayuno completo que incrementará la concentración y el aprendizaje. 

Llegada en la AM 

Los estudiantes podrán llegar a la escuela temprano a las 8:25 AM si ellos desean desayunar.  Supervisión afuera del edificio inicia a las 8:35. Si hubiera clima inclemente, se permitirá a los estudiantes entrar al plantel a las  8:25 AM

Si usted recoge o deja a sus hijos en la escuela, tiene dos opciones: 

1. Dejar a sus hijos en el área designada dentro de los conos de tráfico

2. Estacionarse en un lugar designado legal y escoltar a su hijo/a del carro o hacia el carro del edificio/ o área de recreo.

Salida en la PM 

PK y Kindergarten tienen llegadas y salidas únicas. Esto será comunicado directamente por las maestras de  PK y Kindergarten el 3 de Septiembre .

Todos los otros estudiantes serán despedidos en una de estas dos puertas: 

Grados 1-2:  La salida será por la puerta #13  (localizada al frente del edificio)  

Grados 3-5   La salida será por la puerta #12  (localizada en parte trasera del edificio) 

Finalmente, una de nuestras metas en Tarkington es el empezar la instrucción prontamente a las  9:00 y 1:00 . Debido a esto, le pedimos que traiga a su hijo/a a la escuela no más tarde de 10 minutos que haya iniciado las clases. Ya que la puerta de enfrente se cierra a las 9:00 AM, favor de firmar la entrada de su hijo en la oficina después de las  9:00 AM. Favor de ver para más detalles Bell to Bell Schedule for details.
